'Scan In Scan Out' is a process that we recommend you use during the final stages of implementing the PVX warehouse management system (WMS).
Once you have uploaded your list of product items into PVX and created your location hierarchy, you need to inform the system which items are held in which locations and in what quantities. In other words, you need to perform a stock-take of each location. This stock-take is usually conducted over the course of several weeks; however, during this time, your current WMS must continue operating. Ideally, you will be receiving and picking items to fulfil orders using your current system while performing the stock-take using PVX. This is the time when you should use Scan In Scan Out and the 'green sticker method'.
How it works
For each location that you stock-take using PVX, you need to track any items that are subsequently removed from or added to that location until the integration with your website goes live and you switch to using PVX as your WMS. This is the purpose of the green stickers.
When you have completed a stock-take on a location using PVX, mark the location with a green sticker. This tells operators that the inventory in that location is recorded in PVX and that this record must be maintained.
Use the Stock Take function in the PVX mobile app. You can find more information on this in the user's guide. If your operators need to pick items using your current WMS from a location marked with a green sticker, they MUST also 'scan out' the items in PVX to record that the inventory has been reduced. They can do this using the Remove function in the PVX mobile app. You can find more information on this in the user's guide.
If any items need to be added to a green sticker location, perhaps from deliveries received in the warehouse, then operators MUST also 'scan in' these items in PVX to record that the inventory has been increased. They can do this using the Register function in the PVX mobile app. You can find more information on this in the user's guide.
Continue performing the stock-take until every location has a green sticker.
Continue to use Scan In Scan Out on green sticker locations until your integration with PVX is switched on, at which point the inventory levels in the warehouse will be sent to your website and your old WMS will cease operating. You can then stop using the green stickers and start using the normal Receive and Pick functions in the PVX mobile app when moving items in and out of locations to fulfil orders.
