Peoplevox

Android device specification

PVX Application System Requirements

Minimum Specifications

  • Android 7.1 Nougat system (API 25) or higher

  • Camera with Autofocus and Flashlight

The Android application should work on any device that meets or exceeds the minimum specifications, however, with so many devices on the market, we are unable to certify individual devices for use with the PVX Updater, PVX and PVX+ applications.

Recommended Specifications

  • Integrated Barcode Scanner / Imager

  • 2GB RAM *

* The amount of RAM required will depend on the size of your Peoplevox database. 2GB RAM is more than sufficient for most operations but more may be required for some larger or more complex business cases. The Service Desk should be able to advise if you have any specific questions about the size of your Peoplevox database.

Scanning Barcodes on Android Devices

The Android application is able to function using the camera as a barcode scanner, however, this is generally unsuitable for use at scale in a warehouse. We would therefore strongly recommend that devices have an integrated 1D scanner or 2D imager and/or an external Bluetooth barcode scanner (e.g. a finger scanner).

1D Scanner vs. 2D Imager

A 1D scanners generally uses a laser to read a traditional one-dimensional barcode such as an EAN, UPC or GTIN. These scanners usually cast a red line over the barcode as the laser reads the symbology.

A 2D imager generally uses a special camera-based imaging sensor to read traditional one-dimensional barcodes, as well as two-dimensional barcodes like QR Codes. They are usually slightly more expensive than the 1D scanner and often found on higher-end devices.
